Explore the strengths and challenges of integrated learning. Examine the different ways that integrated learning can be practised focusing on various policies and initiatives, for example, the National Curriculum and Early Years Foundation Stage, while highlighting implications for teachers and pupils.
Becoming a Researcher in Childhood Studies (30 credits)
Explore key ideas, concepts, and perspectives to understand how to carry out research within the field of childhood studies. Examine research theory and how it relates to researching with, for, and about children and young people. Develop a research project around a relevant childhood topic of your choice, as well as a literature review outlining the key debates that will help contextualise your topic. Explore, analyse, and evaluate research approaches, methods, and ethical considerations that apply to your research. Build on the skills and knowledge required for your Year 3 dissertation project.
Perspectives on Global Childhoods (30 credits)
Examine a range of theoretical perspectives that are relevant to global experiences of children and young people in a range of cultures and countries. Take a thematic approach to exploring issues that include poverty, work, education, health and war, as well as analysing the impact of social, cultural and political circumstances. Critically appraise specific themes in relation to the impact of a range of influences and issues on the lived experiences of children and young people.
Community Engagement: Students and Communities – Partners for Progress (30 credits)
Learn through active collaboration, using problem-based learning to bring contributions to the understanding of real-life problems. Spend time in a community setting and identify strategies and interventions working with different groups of people. Develop your understanding of how theory and practice are linked and gain transferable skills for professional practice such as teamwork, problem solving and communication.
