The aim of this 20 credit module is to equip those whose work involves managing patients who have respiratory diseases to develop their knowledge and skills in this area. This programme has been developed to be innovative in approach and develop theoretical and practical skills relevant for practice whilst promoting a holistic, patient-centred approach to management.
This 4-month module aims to equip those whose work involves managing patients who have respiratory diseases to refresh their knowledge and skills in this area. The module will cover focused consultation skills, diagnosis of asthma and COPD incorporating World Health Organisation (WHO) and National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE) guidelines, the fundamentals involved in managing patients with respiratory disease, pharmacological management of patients with respiratory diseases, practical skills such as spirometry and inhaler usage and the basics of a respiratory examination.
Students will be classroom based for the four full day taught sessions which will be over a four month period and will be expected to work with a clinical lead in practice to refresh and update the knowledge and skills learnt in the classroom. The assessment for this module will reflect achievement at level 6.
This course is delivered by University of Sunderland Clinical Sciences lecturers and is taught over four full days over a four-month period at the University. Each day uses a variety of teaching and learning methods including interactive workshops and will focus on a specific topic that you can then consolidate in clinical practice.
Assessment methods include a poster presentation and VIVA.

We usually require applicants to be health care professionals. You should be working in a clinical setting where your work involves delivering respiratory services.
This course is subject to approval.
The fee for this course is £750.
