Team Leader – Pharmacy Practice and Clinical Therapeutics

I am a Principal Lecturer and Team Leader of the Pharmacy Practice and Clinical Therapeutics team in the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences.

I began working at the University in 2011 and since then have led a clinical module on the MPharm course, developed a new Pre-registration Training course, worked as MPharm Programme Leader and hold an associate post with the General Pharmaceutical Council. I was appointed to the role of Team Leader in 2017.

Before joining the University, I ran a busy community pharmacy in Sunderland for 12 years.

Teaching and supervision

I teach clinical pharmacy and pharmacy practice across MPharm and OSPAP with most of my teaching being focused on the higher levels of the course helping to prepare students for their pre-registration year.

Research

I completed an MSc in Clinical Pharmacy in 2014 having secured a £10,000 funding grant from the NPA to conduct research into experiential learning in the undergraduate MPharm course.

Since then I have completed further research in this area and completed research into pre-registration tutor training. I secured funding from Health Education England in 2016 to undertake a regional project in this area.

Alongside other members of the pharmacy practice team, I am undertaking research funded by Health Education England into the effectiveness of the Prescribing Safety Assessment as a measure of performance in MPharm students and graduates.

I am also currently working with colleagues on a funded project dealing with care of bariatric patients evaluating the patient reported impact of the pharmacist on pre-surgical evaluation.
