Amanda Lee

I am a lecturer in Patient, Carer and Public Involvement (PCPI) based in School of Nursing and Health Sciences in the Faculty of Health Sciences and Wellbeing and am co-chair of the Family Staff Network. I originally began with the University as a Student Support and Retention Research Associate conducting a Health Education England-funded retention research project aimed at supporting pre-registration nursing students.  

I completed my BA (Hons) Sociology at Queen’s University Belfast going on to complete a PGCE Primary Education at Northumbria University gaining Qualified Teacher status. Throughout this, and over seven years of teaching experience of teaching across primary, secondary, and tertiary education settings, I have developed a passion for tackling educational inequalities, for both children and adult learners. More recently I have completed an MSc Inequality and Society at the University of Sunderland where I conducted primary research into the experiences of LGBTQ+ teachers in schools in the UK. 

My areas of academic interest include feminism, intersectional, educational and social inequality, sex and gender, educational and social policy, and class.
